Randolph County, NC was formed in 1779 from Guilford County and was named for Peyton Randolph, the first president of the Continental Congress. Some of the earliest settlers to the area were English Quakers. They mostly settled on the Deep, Enos and Haw Rivers, and began arriving about 1750. The area is rich with information about these early settlers, and the Randolph County Genealogical Society is actively working to share this information. If your ancestors arrived in the New England area, but moved from there, it is very likely they traveled through Randolph County on to their final destination.
Randolph County adjoins Guilford, Chatham, Montgomery, Alamance, Moore, and Davidson Counties, and is located in the center of North Carolina. The county seat is Asheboro.
