ANTE-BELLUM RESEARCH IN GUILFORD COUNTY: THREE CASE STUDIES
Description
In the years before 1850, it can be difficult to draw conclusions about ancestors, particularly those who had little property or who fell upon hard times. Larry Cates, editor of GCGS, will offer three case studies drawn from this period. These will emphasize the process of gathering and analyzing evidence, then drawing conclusions, even when evidence is ambiguous. Two of the three queries were submitted last year by GCGS members. Larry will then take your questions via Zoom.
Larry W. Cates is a native of North Carolina who began family research in 1989 after his first year in college. He has been a local history librarian at the High Point Public Library for nearly 14 years. He has edited several genealogical publications including the North Carolina Genealogical Society Journal and the Guilford Genealogist, compiled books of abstracts, and written numerous genealogical studies. He is a past recipient of the Filby Award for Genealogical Librarianship from the National Genealogical Society.
